Township Board of Supervisors Approves Expenditure of American Recovery Act Funds to Norco Fire Company

NORTH COVENTRY TOWNSHIP, PA – The North Coventry Township Board of Supervisors at their February 13th meeting, unanimously approved Resolution No. 05-2023 to allocate $100,000 of the Township’s COVID-19 relief funding to the Norco Fire Company. The decision to allocate the funds was made in recognition of the Norco Fire Company’s dedication to serving the community during the COVID-19 pandemic despite facing many challenges and reduced fundraising opportunities due to pandemic restrictions.

The Board had previously tasked the Township Manager, Erica Batdorf, with providing steps for implementing recommendations included in her COVID-19 relief money spending plan. One of those recommendations was to evaluate the negative impact of COVID-19 on the safety, health, and welfare of the community and the consequences of the pandemic on first responders who delivered services to the community.

The Norco Fire Company, like many other organizations, faced financial pressures due to the COVID-19 pandemic including the cancelation of the 2020 Annual Fireman’s Fair, a scaled-down 2021 version of the Fair, and the cancellation of Bingo since 2020 among other various fundraising events.  However, despite these challenges, the Company persevered, continuing to provide services through its volunteers who dedicated themselves to carrying out their mission and identifying creative ways to sustain their operations.

The allocation of the Township’s COVID-19 relief funding to the Norco Fire Company in the amount of $100,000 for unrestricted purposes is an eligible use of the Federal Funding and furthers the goals and objectives of North Coventry Township in ensuring the provision of public safety through fire services for the residents and surrounding vicinity.

“We are pleased to announce the allocation of $100,000 of our COVID-19 relief funding to the Norco Fire Company,” said the Township Board of Supervisors. “This allocation recognizes the dedication and hard work of the Norco Fire Company in serving our community during the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope that this funding will help the Norco Fire Company continue to provide the vital services our community needs.”

The approval of Resolution No. 05-2023 by the North Coventry Township Board of Supervisors to allocate $100,000 of COVID-19 relief funding to the Norco Fire Company is an important step in supporting the organization’s continued operation and ensuring public safety for residents and surrounding areas.
