The North Coventry Township Board of Supervisors recently adopted Ordinance No. 01-2025 Regulating Sports Equipment and amending Chapter 312 Street and Sidewalks to add definitions, adding Article IV. Sports Equipment, providing regulations, provisions, violations, and penalties. The purpose of the Ordinance is to define sports equipment and prohibit sports equipment from being left in or on any street or right of way within the limits of North Coventry Township. Further, no sports equipment shall block or interfere with traffic or impact safe vehicle use on Township roadways. The regulation is now in effect and we encourage residents to take note of the following:
- Sports Equipment is defined as portable and permanently installed basketball poles, hoops, soccer goals, nets, skateboard ramps, roller blade ramps, or similar recreational items.
- Sports Equipment shall not be left in or on any street or right of way within the limits of North Coventry Township.
- No Sports Equipment shall block or interfere with traffic or impact safe vehicular use of the roadways.
- An owner of Sports Equipment’s failure to comply with the provisions of the Ordinance shall constitute authorization for the Township the right to move or remove the equipment out of the Right of Way without responsibility or liability for any damage caused. The Township’s right to move any such Sports Equipment shall be in addition to any other rights/enforcement remedies available to the Township applicable by law.
Maintaining Sports Equipment and moving these items out of the road and right of way, behind a sidewalk and/or curb line is required and will ensure the streets are clear for seasonal road maintenance activities and storm events. We appreciate the community’s cooperation in complying with these regulations to ensure the safety of our employees and our residents!
